Eragon

I've finally got my hands on this book. "Eragon" by Chris Polini (i think...) is being passed around our church practically...anyway, I have enjoyed reading it. Anybody else read it? He writes well, and carries the plot with much detail without getting boring. He also weaves in counter plots with very intriguing mysteries as well. I think that it is well worth your time to grab it and spend an evening with it. For those of you who don't know, it's about a farm boy who stumbles upon a strange, mysterious rock while hunting in the woods. The rock, unbeknownst to him holds a secret more powerful then any other. And immediately the boy (Eragon) is thrown into an adventure with mystery, dragons, peril, and a stunning yet powerful climax. Anyway, I think I haven't ruined it with that vague description, if you a want a better overview, read the back of the book...heh, well, I'll leave you all with that. If u have read it or heard of it, tell me what u think. well, laterz everybody,

Oh, that book. My friend Jon tried to get me to borrow it from him to read. The words he used to try to convince me was "It's just like the Lord of the Rings" and I was like "Uh, I don't think so. Nothing beats Lord of the Rings." But with the way that you describe it it does sound fasinating, but I got a whole bookcase of Classics I want to read before I die, you know ones like Island of the Blue Dolphins, The Wind in the Willow, Kidnapped, Jane Eyre, I'm reading Heidi now, and etc. etc. etc. I've already fentured to read The Scarlet Letter which was very difficult to comprehend. So if there were six more waking hours in a day I would but as for now, no. Well, enjoy it while you have it.

i agree about the classics, but i have read a LOT of classics, so i have had my fill of them for a while, as for eragon, it's not really like lord of the rings, and it reads a LOT differently. But having read like the lord of the rings, and the hobbit, and the silmarillion, lost tales and stuff like that i have a great appreciation for the world tolkein has created. So i still like the lord of the rings

All those classics you mention, Christina, are all wonderful books. I really liked Eragon...It has the touch of LOTR, but not as deep, more like a modern novel in style.

Did you know they are making a movie of it? If I remember correctly, it is due out sometime this year. IMDB says it is in post production.

It sounds like Lord of the Rings... Aragorn - Eragon... :) But it sounds good, I might look it up!

I know they're already making a movie on it, i don't know who's directing it or anything

well, ellie, it's like lord of the rings only cuz it's kinda the same time period, but everything else about it is different...

It sounds like an intresting book. I have never read it, or even heard of it. It sounds good though.

Eragon's really fun. But the second of its trilogy, Eldest, delves deeper into the magic and the author's philosophy. He protrays a misconception of religion and the main character "realizes" atheism is the way to go. It's sad. But either than that, I love the books!

oh its Paolini (though you probably already looked back and the book and saw that)

ya, i saw that eventually...
that's too bad about eldest, i was looking forward to that one too, oh well...

You get a 5-point bonus with this here comment (you're welcome :) ). I've never read Eragon, although I've seen plenty of other people carrying it around. I'm not much of a fantasy guy...

thank you for the comment, Michael.
I don't like to call Lord of the Rings, Chronicles of Narnia, or Eragon "fantasy" books, I rather like to call them historical fiction, even though everyone know elves, beavers can't talk, etc. The only thing I don't like about the LOTR books is that the language is at such a high level. I don't know how you could get classic book sick. I quit reading the Anne of Green Gables books (yuck) because I was REALLY sick of Anne's dreams and girly story and just craved a classic. I suppose you could say that The Scarlet Letter was completely the opposite rout. Oh, well.

well, i didn't say i was sick of them, but i wanted a little change or something. If you read classics for a couple years u can get a little tired of them, i still read some occaissonally

I've heard of Eldest, but not of Eragon. I've never read either one.

James has read both Eragon and Eldest. I, however, am lost in the world of Ted Dekker

Never heard of it, although I have read LOTR (a long time ago), Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter, and Ted Dekker.
